Working Smarter To Ensure Effective Revision

We are now well and truly in the final ‘sprint’ towards our external and internal exams.

Achieving confidence with exam questions is now vital. One way of achieving this it to have a go at the Working Smarter idea from the Mindset books by Griffin and Oakes.  Please find attached here an article on Working Smarter to Ensure Effective Revision.

Year 11 Exams - Important Dates And Study Period Arrangements

Year 11 Exams - Important Dates

Formal lessons end for Year 11 on Friday 1 May 2020 and the GCSE exam period runs from Monday 11 May 2020 until Wednesday 24 June 2020. Please read the notice from Shellagh Dodds, our Examinations and Assessments Manager, very carefully. It gives important information regarding exam timetables and the need for all pupils to be available up to and including Wednesday 24 June.

Year 11 Exams - Study Period Arrangements

Following the end of their formal lessons on Friday 1 May, Year 11 pupils may revise at home and come in only for their timetabled exams. Year 11 teachers will follow their usual timetable and be available to help pupils for the following week, 4 to 7 May. Any pupils wishing to come in to take advantage of that assistance must follow their full timetable for the days that they come in that week. Any pupils wishing to continue their independent study in school from Monday 11 May must report to one of the allocated study rooms and remain there for the day. Year 11 will have break, tutor time and lunch as per our normal school timetable.

Maintaining an accurate record of who has come in to study and where they are is of course essential from a Health and Safety perspective. Pupils who come into school must make sure to sign in and be registered either in their timetabled lessons initially or in their specific allocated study base from then on. Any pupils who do not follow those rules will have to revise at home.

Thank you for your support.

May I take this opportunity to wish all of Year 11 the very best of luck for their GCSEs. They have been working very hard and we have been delighted with the progress that the vast majority of pupils have already made between their first and second mock exams. They are on the home straight now. I am sure that they will reflect carefully on their mocks and take full advantage of the revision guidance they have received and the time they have left to prepare.

External Examinations

Personalised exam timetables are available to view on the Pupil and Parent Portals under the heading: Exam Timetable. A copy of the Candidate Booklet for Written Exams can be downloaded here. It’s important that pupils read this booklet as it contains the rules and regulations they must abide by as well as a lot of other useful information.

All pupils with an exam clash have been notified of the change to their timetable. If anyone has not received this information please come to The Exams Office in Room S38. IGCSE Language Exams: all languages show both the Listening exam and the Reading and Writing exam starting at the same time. This is not a clash; the Listening exam will take place at the time shown and the Reading and Writing exam will follow. GCSE History Exams: on both dates the timetable shows 2 papers with a different option code and no duration. The scheduled duration for each History exam is 2 hours.
