Year 11 Examinations Final Information

As we approach the beginning of the examination season, we wanted to provide some final notes about arrangements for Year 11.

COVID and Examinations
Thankfully, we have very few cases of COVID currently in school and are hopeful that this will continue throughout the examination season. However, we wanted to provide the following additional guidance in case your child is affected.

If a pupil tests positive for COVID we advise that they isolate for three days; after this they are permitted to return to school if they feel well enough. In the event of a positive COVID case please inform us of the date it was taken and an image of the test result emailed to examinations@princethorpe.co.uk; we would then apply for Special Consideration for the missed examination(s). Examinations have been scheduled so that it is highly unlikely that pupils would miss more than one in a given subject in these circumstances. Similarly, where a pupil is unwell and unable to sit an examination, please email school as soon as possible.

Book Return
Year 11 pupils will need to return all of their textbooks and other loaned equipment on Thursday 23 June, following their final Physics examination. Details will be sent out closer to the time.

Study Rooms
Study rooms will appear on pupils’ timetables on MySchoolPortal this weekend. We will add some additional capacity at particularly busy times; in order to inform our planning of this, please complete the form here to indicate likely attendance in school if you have not already done so.

Examination Day Protocol
Year 11 pupils should all attend school in correct uniform for the entirety of the examination period. They should use their lockers to store bags and revision materials when in an examination so that they are not bringing any forbidden items into the examination hall.

Year 11 Leaving Site
As you are aware, pupils need to sign-in at the Student Hub if arriving after 8.40am and should sign-out at the Student Hub if leaving site before 15.45pm. Following morning examinations, where a significant proportion of the year group are likely to be leaving site at the same time, we will open the playground for a short window of time to facilitate smooth pick-ups. The specific times are shown below. Please be aware that for the Health and Safety of all our pupils, the playground must remain closed to cars between 10.45am and 11.30am and we are not able to open the playground earlier than normal during the afternoon.

Parents are not required to sign-out pupils when collecting them, but please do send your child a text when you have arrived so that they can show the Student Hub staff before leaving the premises. Similarly, if your child is being collected by another parent, when leaving school during the day after an exam, please email in advance to attendance@princethorpe.co.uk with the details.

Summer Internal Examination Week 2022 - Update

As you will be aware, our internal examination week is scheduled for the final week of this half-term. This week is a key opportunity for pupils to demonstrate what they have learnt over the academic year and to have invaluable practice of formal assessments. We delivered an assembly to the whole school on Monday to inform pupils of how the week will operate and how they can best prepare. A recording of this assembly can be seen here. (Your child will need to be logged in to their Princethorpe account in order to access this.)

The normal teaching timetable for Years 7-10 and the Lower Sixth will be suspended for the whole week. You should have already received a copy of the timetable for the week, and pupils have since received individual versions where needed. Pupils with access arrangements have also been advised of specific arrangements. Exams will be conducted as closely as possible to full exam regulations so pupils can start to get used to how they work; though pupils in lower years will have shorter papers.

Lower Sixth students are expected to be in school throughout the week; they will be able to revise in the Library and Marquee in periods when they do not have exams. The results of these exams will play an important part in deciding on the predicted grades that the school will use on UCAS and other applications but they will, of course, be considered in the full context of a student’s progress and trajectory over the year.

All Year 7-10 pupils will have slots throughout the week when they can revise silently for papers later that day or later in the week. They should therefore make sure they have with them each day the relevant materials they wish to revise from. It is also a good idea to have a private reading book with them. All pupils in Years 7-10 will be assigned to a specific room (their exam base) and they will take exams in that base for the whole week. However, Year 10 pupils will have two opportunities to experience a larger examination hall in preparation for Year 11.

Games lessons will continue as normal for all year groups throughout the week. I wish all the pupils the very best of luck and we look forward to sharing with you how your child has done in our Exam Reports in June. If you have any questions about Exams Week, do please contact us.

Thank you for your continued support

Best wishes,
