Internal Examinations Week - Update

Week Commencing Monday 20 May 2019 - Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and Lower Sixth

The normal teaching timetable for Years 7-10 and the Lower Sixth for next week has been suspended in order for the exams to run. All pupils have received an individualised exam timetable which will show exactly when each exam will take place. Pupils with access arrangements have been advised of any specific arrangements. Exams will be conducted as closely as possible to full exam regulations so pupils can start to get used to how they work.  Please note that there has been a late change to the Year 10 exam timetable - Year 10 pupils have been emailed directly about this change.

Lower Sixth students are expected to be in school throughout the week; they will be able to revise silently in the Sixth Form Atrium in periods when they do not have exams. The results of these exams will play an important part in deciding on the predicted grades that the school will use on UCAS and other applications but they will of course be considered in the full context of a student’s progress and trajectory.

All Year 7-10 pupils have slots throughout the week when they can revise silently for papers later that day or later in the week.  They should therefore make sure they have with them each day the relevant materials they wish to revise from.  It is also a good idea to have a private reading book with them.

All pupils in Years 7-10 will be assigned to a specific room (their exam base) and they will take all the exams in that base for the whole week. This will hopefully make the process as simple as possible for them.  This room information is located on their timetable.

Games lessons will continue as normal for all year groups throughout the week.

I wish all the pupils the very best of luck and we look forward to sharing with you how your child has done in our Exam Reports in June. If you have any questions about Exams Week, do please contact us.

Year 10 Parents' Evening

Thursday 13 June 2019

The Year 10 Parents’ Evening takes place on Thursday 13 June from 6.00pm to 8.30pm in the Sixth Form Centre.

We will continue with the new system introduced successfully last year and offer the option of a two course supper for you and your family, at a cost of £2.00 per head, and served across three sittings, 5.30pm to 6.00pm, 6.00pm to 6.30pm and 6.30pm to 7.00pm. Supper will be served in the Refectory.

We will also provide two supervised areas where siblings can wait whilst you and your son or daughter meet with the teaching staff. There will be a film screening in one room and for those looking for a quieter environment a second area will be provided where they can relax or study.

To help us with the smooth running of Parents’ Evening and so that we can cater efficiently we would be grateful if everyone who would like to book for supper could complete the RSVP Form by clicking here no later than 10.00am on Friday, 7 June.

Please make sure to arrive by 7.30pm at the latest. Parents arriving later than that may not be able to see all the relevant teachers before the event closes at 8.30pm.

Here is some additional information that you may find helpful:

• Parking will be available on the school playground.
• Please enter the Sixth Form Centre building through the Sixth Form entrance only.
• Please ensure you sign in and collect your name badge from the reception desk before entering the Sixth Form Centre.
• There is no appointment system. You should allow approximately five minutes per teacher – a timer will sound every five minutes to assist with keeping discussions within this timeframe – please do organise a further meeting if you feel you need a longer discussion.
• Plan strategically – decide which teachers you really need or want to see and target them first. We suggest you have a list of your child’s teachers and subjects - can be found on the Parent Portal.
• On leaving the building please sign out at the reception desk.

We look forward to seeing you.
