‘The Greatest’ House Talent Show - Reminder

Friday 30 November: 7.00pm - 9.30pm

At the end of November we will be hosting another scintillating evening showcasing the wonderful, and sometimes unusual, talents of our pupils here at Princethorpe College. Auditions have already taken place and the contestants selected from these earlier rounds will take their place centre stage in the Clarkson Theatre.

Honour and glory is at stake to win the coveted House Talent Show places which, of course, contribute to the highly competitive and desired House Trophy. Acts from all houses will be taking part so if you want an "X-Factor" night showing that "Princethorpe has got talent" get your tickets as soon as possible as seats are limited.

Tickets are on sale from LF06 (break times or Thursday lunchtime) and outside the refectory (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime). Tickets are priced at £3.50 for adults and £2 for children.

The proceeds from ticket sales and refreshments will go towards this year's house charity, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For more details of this wonderful charity, please visit their website: www.jdrf.org.uk

Come along and support your house and your friends on a night to remember and don’t forget, "The noblest art is that of making others happy."

College Feast Day

Friday 7 December

College Feast Day is fast approaching and will take place on Friday 7 December. This is a celebration involving the whole of the College community, marking the day back in 1854 that the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart were founded and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. To celebrate, the whole school will come together in the afternoon to take part in the hotly contested House Singing Competition, as well as to hand out awards to those pupils receiving House Progress and Achievement Prizes from the last academic year.

Pupils will be asked to wear their house shirts on the day, along with their normal school trousers or skirts.

Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Lunch will both take place on the last day of term, Tuesday 18 December 2018.

Sixth Form Taster Days For External Candidates

Thursday 11 December and Thursday 17 January from 9.00am - 5.00pm

For those of you who have children in Year 11 who are not currently studying at Princethorpe or who have friends with Year 11 children, our upcoming Sixth Form Taster Days for external candidates may be of interest.

Sixth Form Taster Days are an opportunity for a small group of prospective Sixth Formers to visit the College for a selection of A-level subject taster lessons, a Q&A session with current Sixth Formers and Year 11, lunch, a tour of school and a chance to meet the Headmaster and Head of Sixth Form.

These days will run from 9.00am to 4.15pm when parents are invited back to join an informal Sixth Form information session which will finish around 5.00pm.

The Sixth Form at Princethorpe offers great choice, quality teaching in small classes, a vast array of sporting, co-curricular, leadership and service opportunities coupled with excellent pastoral care and guidance, tailored to the needs of today’s young adults. Our staff give outstanding individual support to all students and this remains an essential feature of Sixth Form life.

These events are for external candidates who are interested in attending Princethorpe College Sixth Form. Our own Year 11 pupils had Sixth Form taster experiences last summer and further opportunities will arise during the course of this year. Places are limited. To register your interest in attending one of our upcoming Sixth Form Taster Days at Princethorpe College, please click here.

For more information on Sixth Form admissions please contact the Registrars on 01926 634201 or email admissions@princethorpe.co.uk.

Parents Reading Group

Wednesday 12 December 2018 at 7.30pm

At our November meeting we discussed The Heart’s Internal Furies by John Boyne.  All agreed that this is a moving text which addressed the impact of both homophobic prejudice and sexual repression on the lives of individuals in Ireland from 1945 to the present day.  Despite some heavy use of coincidence we found the text convincing and engaging.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 12 December in the Library at 7.30pm.  We will be discussing This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay.  This is a light read which has been well reviewed as an engaging reflection of the state of the NHS from the perspective of a young doctor.  Please join us whether or not you have read this book.  We always welcome newcomers and enjoy sharing a range of reading interests.

Parents’ Christmas Carol Service - Reminder

Friday 14 December at 7.00pm

Parents and friends of the College are invited to a special Carol Service in the College Chapel on Friday 14 December at 7.00pm.

The service will follow the traditional form, with the College Choir leading our singing.

There will be seasonal refreshments after the service in the Sixth Form Centre.

Due to the popularity of this event, seats need to be reserved in advance. You will understand that the Chapel can only hold a finite number of people and for health and safety, reasons we need to limit numbers and seats are available on a first come first served basis.  Please click here to reserve places and reply by Monday 10 December 2018.
