The Flagpole

We said 'à bientôt' and good luck to our Year 11 pupils last Friday and 'au revoir' and all the best to the Upper Sixth today. The public examination season has commenced and we wish all our pupils taking exams over the next few weeks the very best of luck.

We have a bumper edition of the Flagpole today so don't forget you can use the link to the Index Page below to help you navigate your way around the newsletter more easily.

Watch out for the next edition of the Flagpole on Friday 22 May.

Foundation Principal's Message

Foundation Principal's Message

An update from our Foundation Principal, Ed Hester.

Today, as I write this letter, it is David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. A naturalist, writer and broadcaster of world renown, he has perhaps done more than any single individual to raise our awareness of environmental issues and how important it is that we look after our beautiful and amazing planet in times of great change.

Our 2026 Sustainability Plan, published last week would, I hope get Mr Attenborough’s seal of approval. We are very much aware of the importance of ensuring careful husbandry of our resources and educating our children on the importance of caring for the environment. If you have any feedback on this report, please do get in touch with me.

Today also marks the 125th anniversary of the consecration of our beautiful Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Princethorpe College. The Mass we are holding this evening, con-celebrated by Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) will be attended by current and former staff, trustees, parents, and pupils. It will be a joyful celebration of this special and unique building at the very heart of the school.

It also reminds us very much of the significant impact the Benedictines and MSC have had on our history. Their generosity was key to the formation of what has become The Princethorpe Foundation, and it is good to see that this generosity of spirit and indeed financial assistance is still very much engrained in our schools. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Annual Fund this year. Your gifts are already helping us support pupils and families, along with bringing forward practical projects that improve school life. As we approach the end of the school year, we are continuing to encourage support from those who feel able to give. Every gift, whatever its size, helps us do more for the pupils in our care.

I am delighted that the Principal and CEO elect, Stuart Shelton, is joining us for our Mass this evening. Stuart is a superb appointment by the trustees, and I have already started working closely with him in preparation for him starting in September 2027. He joined me at the wonderful Crackley Hall Open Evening last night and we will both be at the Crescent Open Evening next week as he starts to build his knowledge of our schools

Finally, I send my best wishes to all those families who have children undertaking public examinations this summer and finish with a quote from the birthday boy which strikes a real chord with me on this special day:

It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”

With all best wishes

Headmaster's Message

Message From The Headmaster

Mr du Toit's message to parents.

Last week Thursday and Friday, were two days that are currently at the top of my list for “best days of 2025-26”. The Bank Holiday Weekend afterwards was the icing on the cake, but what preceded the extended weekend was genuinely special.

On Thursday night we had our Spring Concert with more than 60 musicians and singers taking to the stage. Mr Cowlishaw and Mrs Wakeley hit all the right notes with an incredible programme. My favourite musical, Dear Evan Hansen, and my favourite film music, How To Train Your Dragon, both received a nod, making it truly special. The range of talent on show was mind blowing, and I find it hard to comprehend how our pupils find the time to be so good at so many different things. It was an evening where I continuously found myself closing my eyes and just enjoying the passions and talents of our musicians. The really exciting announcement on the evening was that our Spring Concert for the Diamond Jubilee year will take place in the inspiring surroundings of the Birmingham Conservatoire’s Bradshaw Hall, where we plan to invite Old Princethorpians back to perform and join us for this very special occasion. I also found out this week that the next Drama production in the Michaelmas Term will be Macbeth... this is quite a change from our summer musical – Legally Blonde! All in a normal day at the College….

On Friday afternoon we sent off our Year 11 pupils with their annual “Good Luck Walk”. The first exam took place yesterday and we know they will do us and themselves proud. The vibe and atmosphere during their final lunch was special. The laughter, excitement, amazing shirts, and a few tears all contributed to a special moment I am sure they will all remember. We cannot wait to have them back in the Sixth Form when they will take the place of our departing Upper Sixth who left today. We introduced a new tradition for our Upper Sixth with all of them ringing one of the bells in the Tower as a final farewell to the College. They are a very special year group and as they did their final walk off site today, they left with our best wishes and prayers for clear minds and calm spirits. They have amazing offers for next year and they deserve every success that comes their way.

Finally, on Friday evening, our U13 Girls’ Football team played in the ISFA Cup Final at the county ground down in Hertfordshire. Unfortunately, the girls lost the match 0–1. However, I could not have been prouder of their efforts. They never stopped fighting and after hitting the woodwork and narrowly missing a few chances, it sadly just wasn’t their night. However, what really made the night special was the 50 plus supporters who made their way down to the match. It was fantastic to see parents, pupils and staff all living the ups and downs of a cup final. The photo on social media of the “Princethorpe Massive” who were there, really does sum up the community and our ‘spirit of family’. We went home disappointed but with warm hearts.

Before I sign off, just a couple of other quick reminders please:

  • You will find a link to our draft RSE policy in this Flagpole. It is a requirement to consult parents when we publish a new RSE policy hence it being shared with you. Please rest assured it follows statutory guidance and best practice. We don’t expect any changes but welcome any feedback or questions.
  • There are still tickets available for the Diamond Jubilee Ball on Saturday 5 September. It promises to be a great evening and an energetic way to kick of celebrations for our 60th anniversary. Please do book your tickets if you have not done so yet.
  • The PTA is hard at work planning Summer Fest. Last year’s inaugural event was a big success and Sunday 21 June should be in everyone’s diaries.
  • I have received holiday requests from a few parents that clash with internal exam week. Can I please ask that families do not book holidays in term time? We have a very generous allowance when it comes to holiday, therefore, unless there are extraordinary circumstances, term time holidays will be unauthorised.
  • With warmer weather threatening to arrive, can you please ensure school unform stays a priority? We will let pupils know when it is shirt sleeve order and when they can remove blazers.

As ever, please take some time to read through The Flagpole as there are important updates and information.

With my very best wishes

Grove du Toit
Headmaster

U13 Girls Were ISFA National Cup Finalists

Huge congratulations to our U13 Girls' Football team for reaching the ISFA Cup Final. A truly superb achievement after what has been an outstanding season.

The team travelled to Letchworth Garden City on Friday 1 May to take on Surbiton High School. In a high-quality and closely contested match, the girls narrowly lost 1-0, but what a performance they produced, and how near they came – hitting the woodwork on more than one occasion. Their outstanding second half showed incredible determination, teamwork and resilience, and they truly left everything on the pitch.

The girls represented the College with tremendous spirit, determination and composure throughout and we could not be prouder of all they have accomplished this season. This talented young group has an exciting future ahead, their camaraderie, resilience and talent shines through, and we cannot wait to see what they go on to accomplish.

New Film Highlights The Impact Of The Annual Fund

This week, we shared a new short film with parents, Old Princethorpians and former parents, highlighting the impact of bursary and hardship support at Princethorpe College.

The film features pupils reflecting on their time at Princethorpe, the opportunities they have had, and the difference support can make in helping pupils come to the College, remain here when circumstances change, and leave ready for what comes next. It is also a powerful reminder of what the Annual Fund exists to do.

The Annual Fund brings together gifts of all sizes from parents, Old Princethorpians, former parents, staff and friends of the Foundation. At Princethorpe, that support helps provide bursaries and hardship assistance, while also helping us invest in projects and improvements that enhance the pupil experience.

Some gifts help open the door to a Princethorpe education. Some help a family through a difficult period. Others help us improve facilities, resources and opportunities for pupils. Each gift has its own purpose, but together they allow us to do more than fees alone can provide.

That collective generosity matters. It helps us respond to real need, support pupils at important moments, and bring forward practical improvements that benefit school life now and in the future.

We are very grateful to everyone who has already supported the Annual Fund. Your generosity has a real and lasting impact.

Please take a few minutes to watch the film. If you are moved by what you see, and feel able to support the Annual Fund, a one-off gift or regular donation would help us do more for pupils today and in the years ahead.

Support the Annual Fund: here.

Spring Concert Was A Superb Celebration Of Music

Last Thursday 30 April, Princethorpe College hosted its annual Spring Concert and what a wonderful celebration of music it was. The Sports Hall was packed with parents and families eager to enjoy the talents of our many musicians and vocalists.

Over 60 talented Princethorpe pupils treated the audience to a night to remember, impressing all with their varied repertoire and fabulous delivery. The Concert Band opened the proceedings and they were followed by the Chamber Choir, String Orchestra and Cèilidh Band. The audience also enjoyed plenty of soloists and small ensembles in between the big group pieces.

The evening finished with a wonderful medley of Music by John Miles with all the performers playing and harmonising together.

A huge thank you to, Director of Music, Gil Cowlishaw and, Teacher of Music, Alison Wakeley for all their organising and rehearsing and to our talented Princethorpe College musical community for providing such super entertainment.

You can find a montage of some of their incredible performances on our social media here.

The evening's excitement was completed when Mr Cowlishaw announced that next year, as part of the College's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Jubilee Spring Concert will hopefully take place in Birmingham, on Sunday 25 April 2027 at The Bradshaw Hall at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Diamond Jubilee Ball Preparations Moving Apace

Preparations for the Diamond Jubilee Ball on Saturday 5 September are moving apace with important decisions being made this week about the all important catering for the event.

Preparations for the Diamond Jubilee Ball on Saturday 5 September are moving apace with key decisions being made this week about the all important catering for the event.

Ball organisers visited the kitchens of local event caterers, Lemon Zest, for a special tasting session to narrow down the options. The team dedicatedly worked their way through a selection of canapés, main courses and desserts to please every palate and dietary requirement. Without giving away too much, the chosen menu promises to be mouth watering and delicious, with wine paired to complement the menu.

The Diamond Jubilee Ball will take place on Saturday 5 September from 6.30pm to 1.00am in a beautiful marquee in the College’s glorious parkland. Some 300+ parents, trustees, staff and Old Princethorpians are expected to attend the black-tie event. Guests will enjoy a welcome drink and delicious three course meal with wine followed by live music, dancing and late-night snack. A full bar will also be available.

The deadline for purchasing tickets is Friday 26 June, however tickets are expected to sell out well before then. To purchase your tickets and for more information visit Princethorpe Connect.

Success For Students In Senior Physics Challenge

Back in the Lent Term, Princethorpe’s Lower Sixth Physicists took on the British Physics Olympiad Senior Physics Challenge. Competing against over 8,000 pupils from more than 300 schools nationwide, the students sat a tricky written paper, where none of the marks were easy to get.

Head of Physics, Dan Lee, was delighted with their results, commenting, “Congratulations to all, it is great to see our students succeeding in the toughest school-level Physics competition there is.”

A special mention goes to Daniel Ovens-Gibbs who earned the highest scores of the Princethorpe contingent and was awarded a very well-deserved Silver certificate. Mohammad Abedi, Matthew Crawford, Keshav Gupta, Toby Iley, Jorja Parris, Arabella Pinder, Finlay Ross and Lucas Summers achieved Bronze certificates with the remaining students receiving commendation awards.

A huge well done to everyone who took on the challenge this year.

Lower Sixth Explore Next Steps At UCAS Higher Education And Apprenticeship Evening

Our Sixth Form UCAS Higher Education And Apprenticeship Information Evening took place on Tuesday 28 April. Led by Head of Careers, Mrs Quinney, the session supported our Lower Sixth Form students and their parents as they start to plan their post-Princethorpe steps.

It started with an overview of the options after Sixth Form and included information on university and apprenticeships and the UCAS application process, including timings and tips for writing applications.

Two recent leavers, OP Tim Peyret and OP Ruby Clark, both Class of 2025, spoke about their experiences as Degree Apprentices and during the evening, there were breakout sessions covering applications to competitive universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, and the leading Russell Group and red brick universities, as well as the specifics of applying to Medical School, Dentistry and for Veterinary Medicine.

It was an extremely informative evening which we hope parents and students found useful.

College Celebrates 30 Years Of Co-Education

The 2025/26 school year marks a very special anniversary for Princethorpe College, as we celebrate 30 years of being fully co-educational. While girls were welcomed into the Sixth Form from 1976, it was not until September 1995 that Years 7 to 11 were opened up to girls for the first time.

On Wednesday 29 April, pupils and staff attended a special lunchtime talk to mark this milestone in Princethorpe’s history. Headmaster Grove du Toit chaired a panel which included alumnae who were among the ‘pioneer’ girls to join the College in 1995/96, and staff who played a key role in the transition to co-ed.

As two of only fifty girls across the whole school in September 1995, alumnae Eleanor Haddon and Jenny Welch shared their memories of the close friendships that formed, and how the College’s welcoming ethos ensured they instantly felt part of the Princethorpe family. Father Alan Whelan, who was Headmaster at the time of transition, and Margaret-Louise O’Keeffe, who had responsibility for overseeing the move to co-ed in her role as Deputy Head, both gave fascinating insights into all the preparation that went on behind the scenes. Together with form tutor Alex Darkes, who forged strong links with local feeder schools in the leadup to co-education, they worked tirelessly to ensure the transition went smoothly for all pupils, staff and families.

Our audience thoroughly enjoyed hearing all the wonderful stories that were shared, and finished the day’s festivities with some celebratory doughnuts and brownies before heading back to lessons.

40 Mile Challenge For Malawi

On Sunday 26 April, a small group of Sixth Form students and staff took on the Coventry Way Challenge and walked an amazing 40 miles in just one day.

Their route circumnavigated the city of Coventry, starting in Meriden and walking through Kenilworth, Stoneleigh, Wolston, Brinklow, Bedworth and Corley Moor before finally returning to Meriden.

The superhuman team of walkers were raising funds to support our longstanding commitment to Mary's Meals and the charity does in providing a daily meal in school to children in Malawi.

Undertaking such a physically and mentally demanding challenge requires immense perseverance. Our walkers represented the school with great pride, their commitment and positive attitude are a credit to themselves and to our wider school community.

We are incredibly proud of Ajunee Gill, George York, Hetty Frost, Bella Ward, Lola Foulerton, Lucas Summers, Maisie Mealing, Oscar Robbins, Penelope Jones, Soren Wasley, Tom Wilding, and Tristan Shaw. Please do consider supporting them. You can find out more information and donate here.

Huge thanks to all who walked and to those involved in supporting the walkers on the day.

College Celebrates Whole School Eucharist

Pupils came together in the Sports Hall on Tuesday 28 April, to celebrate a whole school Eucharist. Father Alan Whelan MSC began by reflecting on the story of Easter, a time of new beginnings. In his homily, he reminded pupils of our Chaplaincy school theme for the year ‘The Power Of Words’. He reflected on how we all underestimate the power of words – especially the phrase ‘thank you’. He challenged pupils to look after each other and to remember the Parable of the Mustard Seed, the seed that when sown grew to become a large tree. Father Alan reminded pupils to think positively as they and their friends approach the exam season. Then, together as a community, we prayed for the school, for our families and for all those in the world who need our prayers.

Year 11 Summer Examinations - Reminders

Year 11 are now on Study Leave and examinations are underway.

Year 11 are now on Study Leave and examinations are underway.

The Candidate Handbook is available to pupils in Teams and can be seen here.

Examination Timetables
All pupils have been given access to Exam Work Space where they can view their personal exam statement of entry. Timetables, rooms and seating are also visible. This link will remain active and live throughout the examination season.

A few pupils have exam clashes and have been contacted through Teams with a resolution. A clash of exams only occurs when two exams for different subjects are timetabled to start at the same time on the same day.

Where two exams for the same subject are timetabled to start at the same time on the same day, they will be taken one after the other. This applies to GCSE French, GCSE Spanish and A-level Maths.

Study Leave
From Tuesday 5 May, Year 11 pupils are not required to be on-site except when they have an examination. They may choose whether they work at home, in school or a combination of the two. We will provide supervised study rooms for those remaining on-site.

Study Leave Registration
In order to know who is on site at any time, Year 11 pupils will need to sign-in and out of school if arriving/leaving during the school day.

  • Pupils arriving for a morning examination will be registered in the exam room
  • Pupils arriving to a study room for Period 1 will be registered in the room
  • Pupils arriving at any other time of day should sign in at the Pupil Hub

Pupils leaving after an examination can sign-out at the Pupil Hub on quiet days; however, after larger examinations, we would request that pupils are collected during the time windows shown below so that we can control traffic on the playground.

Parents are not required to sign-out pupils when collecting them, but please do send your child a text when you have arrived so that they can show staff before leaving the premises. Similarly, if your child is being collected by another parent, when leaving school during the day after an exam, please email in advance to attendance@princethorpe.co.uk with the details.

Examination Playground Pick-up Times
Please click here for pick-up times.

Study Rooms
Study rooms have been published to pupils before Study Leave. We expect pupils to bring revision materials with them and to be proactive in reaching out to teacher via Teams where needed.

Examination Day Protocol
Year 11 pupils should all attend examinations in correct uniform. They should use their lockers to store bags and revision materials when in an examination so that they are not bringing any forbidden items into the examination hall. Mobile phones accounted for almost half of malpractice cases nationally last year and it is essential that they are not in the room, even if switched off.

Unforeseen Events And Special Consideration
If your child is ill, injured or delayed in getting to school, please communicate with attendance@princethorpe.co.uk as normal and copy in the examinations office examinations@princethorpe.co.uk as quickly as possible so that we can offer the best advice and make any necessary arrangements to support. For pupils affected by illness or other circumstances such as bereavement, we are able to apply for Special Consideration from the examination boards if certain criteria are met. Please communicate any such issues to Heads of House and the examinations office if they arise.

Book Return
Year 11 pupils will need to return all of their textbooks and other loaned equipment before the summer and so we ask that this is done following the last examination taken by the whole year group.

We are proud of how Year 11 have approached this week and wish them well in all their examinations.

May's Challenge Calendar

Information about May's Challenge Calendar.

The Merry Month of May has arrived and this month's challenge calendar has a different focus.

As May is the exam month in school, and the start of the official exams series for those in Year 11 and Upper Sixth, most of your focus will be on pupils' learning for their exams. So, this month's calendar provides some shorter and interesting things to do in their downtime and for when they want a break from their subjects. It seems apt as the exams start, that May includes Mental Health Awareness Week.

The May Challenge Calendar can be accessed here.

For the Da Vinci Challenges there are a couple of practical activities. Pupils should send entries to me via email to Julialindsay@princethorpe.co.uk or by Teams message by the end of the half term holiday. I have also included some ideas for things to do in the holidays. Enjoy the menus of activities and - as ever - stay curious.

Internal Examination Week

Internal examination week takes place week commencing Monday 18 May.

In the week before May half-term, Monday 18 to Friday 22 May, we will be conducting an internal examination week. For this period pupils will not be in normal lessons but will instead be using the time to revise and to take a series of assessments across their subjects. All year groups will continue to have their Games afternoon during this period.

For Lower Sixth students and Year 10 pupils we will be using the opportunity to begin preparations for public examinations next summer, helping them to become familiar with the formality of examinations and to have a taste of an examination hall environment, alongside any individual exam access arrangements.

For Years 7 to 9 the experience will be less formal and papers will be shorter in length, with pupils working in classrooms and engaging in practical Art and Technology sessions. Their assessments will provide the chance to revisit content and to demonstrate how much they have learnt this year.

All pupils should plan to revise in preparation for these assessments and will receive generic advice from the school alongside specific guidance from each subject. After half-term we will publish results and give feedback so that all pupils know how to improve in their future studies.

School Uniform And Reminder

Acceptable standards of school uniform for information.

Uniform

As the weather has improved I just wanted to remind everyone that blazers are still to be worn in school. If pupils are carrying their blazer in the building they should expect a uniform sanction to be issued. Our jumpers are an optional part of our uniform so if your child is removing their blazer because they are too hot with their jumper on too, they should remove the jumper and wear their blazer.

If we have a period of hot weather we will notify the pupils that it is a “blazer off” day – your child may still wish to bring their blazer with them as we find they are the storage facility for pens, house keys, locker keys etc which they can then forget to bring!

Skirt length remains knee length, if your child’s skirt is no longer near the knee it will need replacing. Some pupils may feel that their skirt length is now more noticeably short without their black tights. Please do contact the school shop if you need a replacement.

Jewellery remains as one small stud per ear, a watch and a necklace of religious significance. Bracelets, anklets and other items will have to be removed for collection via the pupil hub.

Fidget toys

We have recently seen an increase in cheap Temu/Shein style fidget toys (jelly balls/stress balls) in school. These are not durable and we do not know if they contain toxic materials. We have had one burst in school which created upset and mess. If your child has a fidget toy as part of their SEND PLP this is not a problem as you will have purchased something appropriate. If your child does not have a need that requires this support, the item will be confiscated for collection via the pupil hub.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form Update

An update from Ben Collie, Head of Sixth Form.

As the pace of Sixth Form life continues to build, with students embracing a wide variety of academic, leadership, and enrichment opportunities. The past fortnight has highlighted the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, whether preparing for examinations, supporting charitable causes, or representing the school through challenge and service.

Our Upper Sixth students are now entering the final stages of preparation for their A-level examinations. We have been encouraged by the maturity and determination they are showing during this important period, and staff continue to provide guidance and support as students prepare for the weeks ahead. We would also like to thank parents for the encouragement and structure they provide at home during this demanding time.

Students and staff successfully completed the 40-Mile Challenge on Sunday 26 April. The determination, teamwork, and resilience shown throughout the event were truly impressive, and we congratulate all those who took part. Challenges such as these remain an important part of Sixth Form life, encouraging students to push themselves beyond their comfort zones while strengthening friendships and confidence. Please feel free to sponsor the students by clicking the link here Princethorpe College is fundraising for Mary’s Meals.

Our Lower Sixth prefect team has now fully begun their responsibilities within the school community. They have made an excellent start, demonstrating professionalism and initiative in supporting events, mentoring younger pupils, and contributing positively to Sixth Form life. We look forward to seeing them continue to develop in these important leadership roles over the coming year.

The Sixth Form Barn Dance also proved to be a highly enjoyable evening, bringing parents together for a memorable social occasion. Events such as these remain an important opportunity to raise awareness of charitable connections with our Sixth Form, College and the wider community.

Looking ahead, several significant events remain on the horizon:

Lower Sixth First Aid Course - Saturday 16 May 2026
Lower Sixth students will have the opportunity to complete a First Aid qualification, gaining practical, life-saving skills that will be valuable well beyond their time at school.

24/7 Walk for Mary’s Meals – Sunday 14 June 2026
We are proud to once again support Mary’s Meals through the annual 24/7 walk. This event reflects the strong sense of social responsibility within our Sixth Form and raises vital funds to provide meals for children in need in Malawi.

Work Experience (Lower Sixth)
Many Lower Sixth students are now finalising arrangements for their work experience placements. This programme remains a key aspect of Sixth Form development, helping students gain insight into professional environments while building confidence, independence, and communication skills.

As always, we are extremely grateful for the continued support of parents and guardians in enabling students to make the most of the opportunities available to them throughout Sixth Form life.

Julieta Ascencao Martinez Is Our Upper Sixth Princethorpe Connect Prize Draw Winner!

Congratulations to Julieta, who was announced the lucky winner of the Upper Sixth Princethorpe Connect Early Bird Prize Draw during the Leavers' Assembly on Friday 8 May.

Each year, the Old Princethorpian Association runs a prize draw exclusively for Upper Sixth Leavers, to encourage them to join Princethorpe Connect, our online alumni community platform, before they leave to embark on their next chapter.

This year, Julieta Ascencao Martinez' name was drawn from amongst those who had created a profile on Princethorpe Connect between 11 March and 6 May. Her prize is a £25 Amazon voucher, and a Magnum Of Fizz for her and her table at the Leavers' Ball, which takes place this year at Wethele Manor, Weston under Wetherley on Monday 29 June.

Princethorpe Connect gives these new Old Princethorpians access to the vibrant community of former pupils, parents and staff, and is a one-stop-shop for staying connected and finding support throughout their lives. It offers a careers and mentoring service, the termly OP e-newsletter, the calendar of OP events, and is host to our merchandise and gift shop. Upper Sixth Leavers will also be able to view their Leavers’ Ball photos on the platform after the event.

Many Leavers have already signed up to enter this prize draw, as well as our OP Friendly Faces scheme. This is our initiative to match new undergraduates with OPs at their destination universities around the country. The matching process will begin after Results Day and those who have requested a Friendly Face will be contacted directly. Leavers can request a Friendly Face at any time by emailing oldprincethorpians@princethorpe.co.uk.

Any of the Upper Sixth who have yet to join Princethorpe Connect can do so at any time by going to connect.princethorpe.co.uk and creating a profile, using the group name 'Upper Sixth Leaver'.

All the Upper Sixth profiles created will be activated after they have officially left and the Leavers' Ball photos are available to view.

Parents of Upper Sixth leavers, for whom this is their last year in the Foundation, are also considered Old Princethorpians, and are warmly invited to join Princethorpe Connect under the group name, 'Former Parent'. They can do so via the same link, as above.

Parents might also like to take a look at the Princethorpe Connect Online Shop and purchase some of our souvenir items which include the OP Tie, Tower Pin, Scarf and the Heritage Buildings Trio Fine Art Print. Items will also be available to purchase at the Upper Sixth Thanksgiving Eucharist and Buffet on Thursday 25 June.

Wishing all our Upper Sixth leavers well as they complete their time at Princethorpe College and begin their journey as an Old Princethorpian. Good luck to you all in your exams and do please keep in touch; we always love to hear how you are doing!

Trips and Visits

Educational Trips And Visits Overview - Reminder

An updated overview of the Princethorpe College Educational Visits 2026 - 2028.

Educational and co-curricular visits have long been a central part of life at Princethorpe College. These experiences enrich pupils’ lives, enhance their learning, and help them develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world around them. We are very grateful for the continued support of Princethorpe parents in enabling these opportunities. Having a clear overview of planned trips also allows families to discuss and consider which experiences are most appropriate for their individual circumstances.

We would like to remind you of the provisional major trips plan as it currently stands. Please note that this does not include academic department day trips or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. You can view the planned trips here.

When information about individual trips is released, we ask that you read the details carefully, particularly in relation to consent, cancellation, and insurance. We will always endeavour to keep costs as low as possible so that as many pupils as possible can benefit from these valuable experiences.

Thank you for your continued support.

Updated Foundation Use Of Images Policy Version 2.7 – April 2026

Parents are advised that the Foundation has just updated its Use of Images policy.

Certain uses of images are necessary for the general and ordinary running and administration of the Foundation and provision of our educational services. These uses are carried out in reliance either on the basis that they are necessary to perform the contract for the education of pupils (for the purposes of Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR) or on the basis that use is in the Foundation’s, pupils’ and/or parents’ legitimate interests (or the broader public interest) (for the purposes of Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR).

These uses may include pupil recognition and identification, CCTV and security, premises access, parental communications and relations and safeguarding purposes. The main update is that the policy now includes that images of pupils for educational purposes used on internal digital learning platforms e.g. Famly, SeeSaw, Teams, for recording learning activities, teacher assessment and home-school communication do not require pupil or parent consent as we are increasingly required to evidence progress and learning in this way. Such images are now deemed part of the general and ordinary running and administration of the Foundation and provision of our educational services.

Parents are therefore informed that whilst they have access to images of their own child within the digital learning platforms, these images are only for personal household consumption and should not be shared externally as they may include other pupils within the learning environment, due to the nature of collaborative working.

Images taken for educational purposes and for use on Famly, See Saw and Teams will be kept to a minimum, they will not be used for marketing and promotional purposes.

The Foundation does require your consent for marketing and promotional purposes, and we hope that parents will feel able to support the Foundation in using pupil images in this way. Please note occasionally group photographs are taken at events or performances where it would be detrimental to the activity and the pupil without photo permission to remove them from the photograph, in this instance the Foundation reserves the right to blur the image of the child without consent, before external publication.

The policy can be found on My School Portal should you wish to read it in full.

Year 11 And Upper Sixth Textbook And Locker Key Returns

An article informing Year 11 and Upper Sixth of the dates when they need to return textbooks and locker keys by.

In the last couple of weeks all Year 11 pupils and Upper Sixth students will have received an email on their College Outlook account detailing all the textbooks that they currently have on loan from the Library. These books will need returning to the Library after their last exam (pupils can drop the relevant book off after each exam to make it easier if they wish).

All textbooks for Year 11 need to be handed back to the library by Monday 15 June 2026 at the very latest.

All Upper Sixth textbooks need to be handed back to the library by Monday 22 June 2026 at the very latest.

Pupils must not hand any of the books listed on the email to their teachers, these need to be returned to the Library to avoid them getting lost and incurring charges.

In addition, all Year 11 must return their locker keys to The Pupil Hub before Monday 15 June 2026. Pupils will be reminded on Teams and on Pupil Briefing.

Any textbooks that are still outstanding after this date will be added to the final bill and there will be a £5 charge for any keys lost or not returned.

It may be that pupils have other books that have been given to them directly by their teachers that are not listed on the email, these will need to be handed back the relevant subject teacher.

We are expecting back over 900 books this year, so assistance with this is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Nicola Treadwell
Head Librarian
