Footballer Finn Competes In The International Carnavel Cup

Before half term, from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 February, talented Princethorpe College Year 7 footballer Finn Osborn travelled to Barcelona to compete in the International Carnaval Cup.  Finn who plays for West Bromwich Albion’s U11/U12s team was competing against U13 junior teams from across the world including squads from Real Madrid, Valencia CF and Manchester City, as well as teams from as far afield as Japan, the United States, Ireland, Belgium and Finland.

The 28 teams taking part were split into seven groups with the winners progressing to a knockout stage. Finn has played in international competitions before and this time the young goalkeeper played in four matches. His team won their first group match 1-0, drew the second 0-0 but then lost the third 0-1.  They then lost their play-off match 0-2.  Valencia were the overall tournament winners beating Espanyol 1-0 in the final.

Finn commented, “It was amazing to travel to Spain and to take part in the Carnaval Cup.  I was pleased with how I played, I stayed focused and managed to save most shots.  The weather was much warmer than here at home and we even had time to go to the beach.  I also managed to learn a little Spanish.”

What a fantastic experience for Finn.
