Sixth Form Open Evening Information

Our Sixth Form Open Evening took place on the evening of Wednesday 11 October. It was an ideal opportunity for Year 11 pupils to discover what Princethorpe’s Sixth Form has to offer. Over the course of the evening some 130 internal and external applicants and their parents toured the school, visiting the various A-level departments, meeting staff and current Sixth Formers and hearing more about subjects and exciting enrichment and co-curricular opportunities.

For anyone who was unable to make Wednesday's Sixth Form Open Evening, Information Packs available on the night will be sent home in the post.

Year 11 Revision Evening For Parents

Wednesday 22 November 2017

We would like to invite you to our Year 11 Revision Evening for Parents. As you may know from your child we have been working with the respected training provider, Elevate Education, to deliver sessions on study skills to our pupils. In this session aimed at parents, Elevate will share with you some of the advice they will be giving to your son or daughter, in advance of the pupil seminar that will run during school on 7 December.

The presentation takes place on Wednesday 22 November at 6pm in the Theatre and lasts approximately one hour. It aims to be a lively and accessible session. Elevate’s summary of the session they will be delivering to the pupils is as follows:
With the arrival of exams, knowing the material is no longer enough. It now becomes a case of application. The question for many pupils is: "How do I take all the work I have done and turn it into the marks I deserve?" This seminar outlines the critical exam skills that will allow them to excel in the exam room, whilst also demonstrating that exams are not just about the exam room - the preparation is where the marks are.

Skills covered include:

Effective work - pupils are introduced to the different types of work they can do in preparation for exams, and which are the most effective. They therefore walk out of the seminar with an understanding of precisely what work they should be doing and when. Fixing mistakes - The pupils are shown how to identify exactly what they're currently doing wrong on mock exams and practice papers, and how to ensure these mistakes are not made in the exam room.

Allocation of time - pupils are taken through a step-by-step process to ensure preparation is completed weeks in advance.

Exam room techniques - Including stress management, planning, time allocation and how to tailor a succinct, focused answer.

We do hope you can join us for this session and that it will help you support your child in the coming months as they make the final preparations for their GCSEs.

In order to help us plan for the event I would be grateful if you could respond by filling in a quick survey by Monday 20 November; please click here to access. Alternatively, if you experience any issues accessing the form, you can email JenniferVaughan@princethorpe.co.uk. Please note that pupils are not expected to attend this session.
