Year 7 Bella Interviews England Netballer Serena Guthrie

Over the Christmas holidays, Year 7, Bella Ward, produced an outstanding example of a podcast for the KS3 English da Vinci Challenge.

Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 were asked to research and produce a three-to-five-minute podcast on a topic that interested them and that would educate or entertain their listeners. Focusing on developing speaking and listening skills, the task required pupils to not use visuals but rather to simply record themselves and finished results have been listened to and discussed in lessons this term.

As an aspiring netball player, Bella decided to contact and interview Commonwealth Gold Medallist and renowned England netballer Serena Guthrie MBE. Her initiative paid off and for her podcast she produced an excellent interview.

Bella demonstrated confident familiarity with the subject, empathy with the interviewee and asked some great questions that were really appropriate for her intended audience.

English teacher, Becky Forde, was impressed commenting, “This was a fantastic piece of work Bella, super commitment to the task, very informative and with a lovely friendly interview style as well.”

A huge well done to Bella.
