For students returning for another academic year:
Gracious God, I return to my studies refreshed and rested after my summer holidays. Thank you for the time with my family and friends; the time to get to know them better and appreciate their love; the time to experience new adventures; the time just to chill out and enjoy myself. Over the coming months in this new academic year, give me enthusiasm in my learning, courage and curiosity when new subject and topics are being taught and patience with myself when things go wrong. In my interaction with others may I appreciate their uniqueness and respect their opinions.
For students new to Princethorpe:
As I start a new school I leave behind familiar routines, teachers and friends. While excited with the coming prospect of a new school, I also feel apprehensive and daunted by the new. Lord, give me the courage to enter into this exciting phase in my life with a sense of adventure, the joy of making new friends and the willingness to see beyond my immediate fears of the new.
For staff of the College:
With thanks and praise I give thanks to almighty God for the weeks of rest and relaxation. Yes, another academic year and with-it new faces and names to remember, students of last year grown in height, in maturity and hopefully in enthusiasm for my subject. To the new staff joining my department I extend a warm welcome and a hand of friendship, remembering my own exciting but nervous first days in Princethorpe. May my words and actions both in the classroom and in organising extracurricular activities be engaging for my students.
For parents:
Lord of all goodness, guide and direct our loved ones as they continue their education for another year. Give them a joy of learning and the tenacity to see through tasks that seem difficult and initially almost impossible. May they be friends to all who are kind to them and tolerant of the shortcomings of others. Beyond the classroom may they embrace the many opportunities presented to them to develop interests out of curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. Guide and direct them in the right path and keep them safe.
Amen
