Online TEFL An Option Too

Lower Sixth Former, Angela Hill, has also been studying for the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification. She chose to complete an online course.

Angela explains, “Studying TEFL was something I was attracted to because of the educational and travel opportunities it provides, I knew that once you gain the qualification, it is immediately recognised – it is a first step on the road to teaching English anywhere in the world to anyone. Completing it will give me the opportunity to travel more in the future which is very appealing to me personally. I chose to follow an online distance learning course where I listened and watched pre-recorded videos and live videos to deepen my understanding, I also kept my own notes to look over before assessments. I have been able to do the course at my own pace when the time suited me best and I am in the final stages of completing it. I know that in the future this qualification will be very useful, offering gap year and summer job employment that would be very enjoyable.”

Head of Sixth Form, Ben Collie, added, “This sort of self-initiative is exactly what we encourage in our Sixth Form students. Angela is not only gaining a useful qualification she has also demonstrated skills such as initiative, discipline and organisation – skills that all universities and employers value.”
