Parents' Book Club - Reminder

Wednesday 14 January 2020 at 7.30pm

At our last meeting we discussed Circe by Madeline Miller and for once we were virtually unanimous in our enjoyment of this book, which throws a cool contemporary light on the well-worn myths and re-creates the mythical figures as complex and ambivalent individuals.  As one reader put it, 'Like opening a tin of Quality Street and finding it full of only the purple sweets!'

We will be meeting again at 7.30pm in the library on Wednesday 14 January.  On this occasion we will be discussing Mark Haddon’s new book The Porpoise which has received wonderful reviews.  We do hope you’ll be able to join us as it would be good to welcome some new faces in the New Year.  For anyone looking to buy a Christmas themed book either for themselves or as a gift for a book-loving friend, we’d recommend Letters From Father Christmas by J R R Tolkien, which includes genuine letters he wrote to his children, or perhaps Skipping Christmas by John Grisham, which is a quick but engaging read.
